In March 2004, the IAS participated, in the founding meeting of the Network of Academies of Sciences of Islamic Countries (NASIC). NASIC, which is supported by COMSTECH, aims to streamline the activities of the academies of sciences in OIC countries. The IAS has been an active supporter of both NASIC and NASAC (Network of African Academies of Sciences) as well as a regular contributor to their meetings. NASIC moreover has been invited to convene its General Assembly meeting alongside the 16th IAS Conference which was held in Kazan, as well as this year in Shah Alam.
Over the last seven years, the IAS has been liaising with the Academy of Sciences Malaysia. Both academies worked closely to convene the OIC Conference on Science and Technology, held in Kuala Lumpur in 2003; and in 2005 joined efforts to organize the 14th IAS Conference. Both academies are involved in the work of the OIC Task Force on Vision 1441; which was instituted by the OIC. The IAS also took part in ASM’s initiative to launch the UNESCO South-South Centre for Science, Technology and Innovation; during May 2008.
The IAS is pleased with the understanding it had reached with the US National Academy of Sciences. The IAS joined the US National Academy of Sciences in organising a number of activities over the last five years. Moreover, in 2009, the US NAS has nominated its Executive Director, International Affairs, to participate in the current 17th IAS Science Conference.
The IAS also collaborates with the French Academy of Sciences, and plans to implement a number of activities with the Korean Academy of Sciences and Technology. The IAS has been actively supporting the Palestine Academy of Science and Technology (PALAST) through facilitating the participation of PALAST officials in the various scientific activities in the Middle East, as well as providing help and advice to this sister academy on a regular base.
The Academy has also recently started a publications exchange arrangement with the Indian National Science Academy (INSA). Moreover, the IAS has been collaborating with the Arab Science and Technology Foundation (ASTF) in a number of fields.
